The net makes easy for blind people to read SMS

MADRID (Reuters) - La ceguera ha dejado de ser una barrera insalvable para las personas que desean enviar y recibir mensajes SMS por la red, gracias a un nuevo servicio presentado el jueves en la feria tecnológica SIMO.
La operadora de SMS Lleida.net ha adaptado su web (www.lleida.net) a los principales recursos utilizados por las personas ciegas, facilitando que puedan enviar mensajes de texto a los terminales de cualquier compañía y escuchar las respuestas en su ordenador a través de una voz sintética, según anunció la compañía en una rueda de prensa.

Esta guía describe cómo se pueden escuchar libros hablados grabados en un disco compacto (CD) usando el dispositivo Plextalk PTN1, fabricado por la empresa japonesa Plextor. Aunque estos libros pueden estar en el formato analógico convencional típico de las grabaciones musicales o en el formato digital MP3, también usado frecuentemente para grabar música, el principal objetivo del Plextalk PTN1 es la reproducción de discos grabados en el formato Daisy, especialmente diseñado para ser usado por personas con discapacidad visual. El formato Daisy proporciona mejores facilidades para controlar el proceso de lectura de las que disponen los formatos antes mencionados

Acceso no visual al escritorio y ha sido creado inicialmente por Michael Curran, con ayuda de James Teh y otros colaboradores, para facilitar el uso gratuíto de ciegos y deficientes visuales al escritorio de Windows.
